Week 1: Schedule for 9/2-9-4/2015
Welcome Back!
Wednesday, 9/2- Shortened schedule.
1. Syllabus and first Assignment. We will be going over syllabus, tardies and expectations for the entire year. This needs to be signed by your parent or guardian and returned for 20 points. Due no later than Fri. 9/11.
2. We will be going over directions for our first assignment: The Bag Speech.

Thursday, 9/3: Picture Day and checking out Lord of the Flies from the library.
1. Today we will go and get our pictures for your yearbook and ASB card.
2. Once your picture is finished you will go to the library and check out a reserved copy of Lord of the Flies for our first unit on Symbolism and Literary Analysis.
Homework: Work on your Bag Speech Assignment. ( Due Tuesday, 9/8).
Friday, 9/4: Collaboration and Group Work
1. Today we will be doing a group activity that will prepare us for the plot and setting of Lord of the Flies. If you are absent you may fill out the activity page Rescue and Survival Plan, and bring it to add to your group on Tuesday.
2. Groups will be assigned and you will just have 1 and a half periods to create a Rescue and Survival Plan if you were a victim of a plane crash on a deserted island. A prize will be awarded for the best overall plan.
Weekend Homework: Make sure that you are ready with your Bag Speech, due Tuesday 9/8/2015!!
Week 2: Schedule for 9/8-9/11/2015
Note: Bag Speeches due. It will be first come first up--and then I will start going through our roster randomly. Deadline is the same for all. Presentation day will vary.
Monday, 9/7: No school, Labor Day, National Holiday
Tuesday, 9/8: Collaboration with Group Members on Rescue and Survival Plan Presentations.
1. Bag Speeches
2. Groups will work together to collaborate and agree on the best possible survival and rescue plan off a tropical island, keep in mind you need to finish, presentations on Wednesdays.
3. Lord of the Flies Packet and Lord of the Flies (LOTF) Vocabulary will be distributed.
4. Vocabulary TEST LOTF #1, Literary Term (Definition of Symbolism) and Figurative Language Term (Personification) Test (Fri. 9/11).
Wednesday, 9/9: Survival and Rescue Plans Presented and Introduction into Symbolism/Universal Themes for LOTF.

4. Go over LOFT Analytical Journals and Expectations.
Thursday, 9/10: In- class write: “My Three Goals for my Sophomore Year.”
1. Bag Speeches
2. Create a three chunk paragraph on your three goals for your sophomore year, which means, that it will have a clear TS, CD with two supporting Commentary (3 times)
First chunk-- Academic goal
Second chunk --Personal goal
Third chunk--, How will the first two goals support your career choice down the road. OR By achieving your first two goals how will that help you to be successful in the future? and an articulate and well thought out CS.
3. This will be due at the end of the period into TURNITIN.com, NO later than Friday, 9/11 by midnight. IEP and 504 students will have until Sunday night, at Midnight to
Friday, 9/11: LOFT Vocabulary #1 plus Symbolism and Personification Test
1. Hopefully finish Bag Speeches
2. Vocabulary Test: LOTF #1, Symbolism and Personification. Finish turning in IN- class write to turnitin.com. You will need to re-enroll in a new class. LA LAB 10, proper period. I will put the new codes into a separate document.
On the Literary Terms and Figurative Language Terms, these definitions need to be memorized and given an example to be given full credit on Friday’s test.
A. Literary Term: Symbolism: “A symbol is a thing, person, or place that is presented as a representation of a larger meaning.
B. Figurative Language: Personification: “Personification is attributing human characteristics to inanimate objects, natural forces, animals, or ideas.
