I am very excited about the journey we are going to be taking together. Together we will learn to become even better readers and writers than we accomplished your 9th grade year with me. Additionally, you will be given the opportunity to continue or create your own novel or a nonfiction research project on a subject of your choice or a video movie with a script. Each step of the way I will be available to you for personal assistance on each and every assignment. It is my job to make sure you are successful in Language Arts, and failure is just not an option. We will have a great year together, I promise. Mrs. Canady ______________________________________________________________________________ Mrs. Toni Canady, NBCT

Essential Questions ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS/ENDURING UNDERSTANDINGS -How does one overcome the flaws of humankind to find hope, beauty, purpose, and identity in the world? -How does fear control society? -What is the inherent nature of humankind? -How does your background and perspective affect the understanding of decisions, actions, and consequences? Common Core State Standards At the heart of the Language Arts curriculum is the desire to increase the academic and social skills of writing, reading, thinking and communicating in order to create both strong students and active citizens. In order to reach this goal, each course has been designed to not only meet but surpass the state mandated Common Core Standards. For a list of the specific skills expected of 9th grade students, please follow this link - Common Core Standards Or visit the following site for an extremely detailed breakdown: http://www.corestandards.org/assets/CCSSI_ELA%20Standards.pdf Grades - The following percentages apply to the assigned letter grades. However, the key to meeting your instructor’s expectations and successfully passing your classes is to turn your work in on time. Major assignments may be submitted up to 7 consecutive days after the initial due date for a maximum grade. After 8 consecutive days it can be submitted until the last day of each quarter for a maximum that equals 60% of the final score total with a valid reason and/or a parent/guardian’s signature. If a student has an IEP or a 504, the original due date will be adjusted and stated on each major assessment. I have read and understand the 10th grade LA LAB requirements and syllabus. Please sign and also have your parent or guardian sign and return to Mrs. Canady for 20 points. _________________________________ _______________ Student name, please print Date _________________________________ _______________ Parent or guardian signature Date |
