4. Think about the type of character Holden represents, why did this novel have such a significant impact on the 50's and novels that had been published prior to its debut? Consider why this book has been banned more frequently than any other classic for the high school audience. Why does Holden lie, how does it harm him and benefit what he is trying to accomplish by revealing his nervous breakdown and what led up to its climax.
